It is appropriate at this charitable time of the year to highlight a luxury frame manufacturer who’s very existence has a philanthropic purpose. The Sama line of handcrafted frames was founded two decades ago by eyewear designer Sheila Vance, with the purpose of funding a philanthropic organization. This organization, the Sam Vance Foundation, was founded in 1997 by Sheila Vance in memory of her son Sam, who died of an accidental heroine overdose at the tender age of 19, while experimenting with the drug in his freshman year at UCLA. The purpose of the foundation is to prevent drug abuse amongst teens and young adults, as well as help with the road to recovery for young addicts. Where most companies primary concern is to make money but may get into a charity to develop a social conscience, Sama was founded in order to fund the Sam Vance Foundation. Vance now donates 100% of the net proceeds from Sama’s Visionnaires collection, 100% of its Heart of Gold Special edition, as well as a portion of Sama Eyewear’s total annual sales.

Kudos to Sheila Vance for such philanthropic efforts. Those efforts are supported by Josephson Opticians.

In addition to being philanthropic, the Sama lineup of luxury brand handcrafted frames is exquisite. Many of the frames are timeless fashion accessories. Much of the collection reflect the latest seasonal trends from Milan, Paris, New York and Tokyo. Many a Hollywood celeb can be seen wearing frames from the Sama line.

We would like to invite you to share with us these truly inspirational and timeless pieces.
