To  work with eyewear fashioned from  unconventional materials and innovative fabrication techniques is extremely gratifying .  It compels an optician to master new skills in order to care for and properly maintain a product. Often unique tools must be provided by a frame manufacturer in order to preform adjustments with accuracy and precision without compromising the integrity of a material.  Our compliance and perseverance ultimately benefits the end wearer’s experience  and strengthens our relationships with manufacturers dedicated to the development and improvement of  exceptional products.

Josephson Opticians has made great investments in the support of  manufacturers such as LINDBERG and MYKITA , who in turn provide us with specialized training and expedited  access to a broader range of products within their collections than may be available through other affiliates.  We have had the fortune to be the premier source of many limited addition pieces and new releases within  North America.

A sample from MYKITA‘s innovative MYLON collection

A result of MYKITA‘s ongoing research and development of  fabrication techniques lead to the award winning production of the MYLON collection in 2011. This collection has become a staple of the majority of Josephson Optician locations ever since.

MYKITA was the first frame manufacturer to utilize Selective Laser Sintering techniques in the production of eyewear. MYLON frames materialize when the heat from a laser bonds particles of the  powdered form of synthetic nylon polyamides.  The process produces frames of extreme durability and lightness of weight.  Unique colourations and textured surfaces are additional features of this collection.

Wearable sculpture created by Gold & Wood Eyepieces

Gold & Wood Eyepieces are another alternative to the conventionally constructed frames which inundate the market. Handcrafted in Luxembourg and available through Josephson Opticians since  1995, the collection has evolved through the  merger of a tradition of fine craftsmanship with industrial innovation.

Exceptional creations result from the complex layering  of fine veneers of precious species of woods with layers of aluminum or natural horn. Varnish sanding and hand polishing lend additional depth and dimension to these refined objects.
