It is because you can anticipate a forecast of  continued sunshine that we offer an utterly contemporary version of the clip-on shade.  Berlin based MYKITA  has developed an eyewear  collection of nine frames featuring stainless steel clip-ons which compliment and transform the look and function of each model.

Unique pairings  of  contrasting colours  and shapes alter the silhouettes and aesthetic impact of the frames once the clip-ons are attached.  Convenient and cost effective, the clip-on gains new purpose as a decorative accessory.

An additional innovation recently introduced by MYKITA is their HYBRID series of frames incorporating elements of the two materials they have mastered, specifically laser sintered MYLON and stainless steel.

Hand crafted and exceptionally refined, these frames are light weight and resilient.  The pairing  of shinny metal finishes  with matt finished MYLON components produces a distinctive, modern look.

You are invited to appreciate an array of MYKITA’s innovations at Josephson Opticians flagship location.

Bucking Covention

To  work with eyewear fashioned from  unconventional materials and innovative fabrication techniques is extremely gratifying .  It compels an optician to master new skills in order to care for and properly maintain a product. Often unique tools must be provided by a frame manufacturer in order to preform adjustments with accuracy and precision without compromising the integrity of a material.  Our compliance and perseverance ultimately benefits the end wearer’s experience  and strengthens our relationships with manufacturers dedicated to the development and improvement of  exceptional products.

Josephson Opticians has made great investments in the support of  manufacturers such as LINDBERG and MYKITA , who in turn provide us with specialized training and expedited  access to a broader range of products within their collections than may be available through other affiliates.  We have had the fortune to be the premier source of many limited addition pieces and new releases within  North America.

A sample from MYKITA‘s innovative MYLON collection

A result of MYKITA‘s ongoing research and development of  fabrication techniques lead to the award winning production of the MYLON collection in 2011. This collection has become a staple of the majority of Josephson Optician locations ever since.

MYKITA was the first frame manufacturer to utilize Selective Laser Sintering techniques in the production of eyewear. MYLON frames materialize when the heat from a laser bonds particles of the  powdered form of synthetic nylon polyamides.  The process produces frames of extreme durability and lightness of weight.  Unique colourations and textured surfaces are additional features of this collection.

Wearable sculpture created by Gold & Wood Eyepieces

Gold & Wood Eyepieces are another alternative to the conventionally constructed frames which inundate the market. Handcrafted in Luxembourg and available through Josephson Opticians since  1995, the collection has evolved through the  merger of a tradition of fine craftsmanship with industrial innovation.

Exceptional creations result from the complex layering  of fine veneers of precious species of woods with layers of aluminum or natural horn. Varnish sanding and hand polishing lend additional depth and dimension to these refined objects.

Our adventurous male clientele can rest assured that we have much in store to peek their interests.  To discerning gentlemen willing to embrace the new we offer the following  examples of contemporary textures  and colouration of eyewear, as well as innovations in fabrication:

Mykita of Germany produces its  Mylon collection through the process of selective laser sintering.  Formed of super-fine polyamide power, these ultra-modern frames feature a unique surface treatment achieved during a patented process. The ‘platinum grey’ colour depicted exemplifies a trend toward the muted and neutral colours  gaining prominence in menswear.

The unconventional combination of matted and polished surfaces on a single frame is a strong feature of the current collection from Bevel. The process requires many steps as portions of the frame are masked while the colour finish is applied. This model features a front formed out of  a solid sheet of 3mm thick titanium free of solder points.

The dynamic combination of polished acetate elements with matte finished  metals has been perfected by Anne et Valentin.  Volume of form is achieved in the absence of  conspicuous bulk and weight.

The Legacy collection from Claire Goldsmith features hand crafted  acetate frames which are distinguished by their sculptural elements and unique colour combinations.  This pairing  of matte  black and jade is  particularly natty.
