Options For Men

21 Jul
2017

An eclectic mix of styles, comprised of multiple materials and colours on a single frame, are now in stock at our shops throughout Toronto. Josephson Opticians offers these masculine options for your consideration:

Pure titanium rim inserts mounted within a beta titanium frame reinforce durable and light weight models such as Ken produced by Bevel Eyewear.

Robert Marc’s latest collection for men consists of artisanal, custom made frames from France.  New colour pairings such as Cobblestone are created by a seamless fusion of two complimentary patterns of acetate along the length of the temple.

Model Theory 1 from Face a Face is a refined acetate frame featuring a subdued matted finish accentuated by an aura of  vivid colour.

Hand crafted in Japan, the customized components of Dita frames require up to 320 separate steps to assemble in a production process which can take up to 8 months to complete. The Statesman Three features a laser etched Titanium rim ,temples and nose pads.

Inspired by the consumer products designed for Braun by industrial designer Dieter Rams, model M.1. by Anne et Valentin is a minimalist marvel.  The fluid interplay of titanium and acetate components of this Japanese made frame is ingeniously executed.

In all seasons and environments the exposure of our delicate eyes to ultra violet radiation is a modern concern and preoccupation. In the interest of enjoying an immediate moment in the sun and as a preventative measure against accumulative retinal damage, the wearing of sunglasses which provide complete protection from the entire spectrum of UV radiation is crucial.

Lenses which are polarized and those which are anti-reflective coated will diminish additional glare and aberrations.

One’s personal style need not be compromised in the interest of ocular health! Currently in stock  at Josephson Opticians locations throughout Toronto are impressive selections of contemporary sunglasses  featuring precisely ground lenses of exceptional quality.

The Rim Is In

The decorative application of a Windsor rim upon the eye-wire of a metal frame is by far the strongest trend observed in the contemporary collections available through Josephson Opticians. The revival of this classic 19th century embellishment references the  past, but it’s modern relevance should appeal to a new generation of  connoisseurs.

A vintage inspired tortoise patterned acetate rim applied to a titanium frame by Robert Marc.

Typically found on round or panto shaped frames, the rim treatment is typically made of acetate, but may be crafted of leather or a fine veneer of wood.

An utterly modern innovation by Bevel– a contrasting coloured titanium insert mounted within a frame.

Like Windsor rim treatments, inserts set  within thin metal eye-wires provide otherwise modest frames a similar depth of character.

An example of Harry Lary’s evolution of style towards a refined aesthetic.

An extensive offering of hand crafted frames featuring Windsor rims and eye-wire inserts are currently available at Josephson Opticians’ locations throughout Toronto.

For 35 years Robert Marc has stood for creativity, authenticity and craftsmanship. After a period of designing eyewear for Calvin Klein and others, Robert opened his first optical boutique located at 190 Columbus Avenue in Manhattan.  Presently his shops seem ubiquitous within the city; four are situated along Madison Avenue, alone.

If Robert’s shops are not actually present on every street of New York’s most fashionable neighborhoods, his designs are certainly worn there. He is a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and his influence is now global.

New York City was the inspiration for Robert Marc’s highly anticipated Fall/Winter 2016 collection and Josephson Opticians is pleased to introduce it to Toronto.

Lexington Green

For this commemorative collection, Robert has embellished his trademarked stainless steel hinge with gold and ruthenium finishes to compliment the unique colour-blocked combinations of Italian acetates of each frame.

Empire Blue

For the first time, Robert has introduced accent colours of beige, tortoise and camel to his temples, creating a distinctive Spectator Hinge.

Broadway Red

The individual portions of acetate are seamlessly laminated together along the length of the temple. Such attention to detail is a  distinguishing feature of this  hand crafted product, constructed in France.

Chelsea Tortoise paired with NYC Black

Six exceptional hue motifs, all inspired by by Robert’s observation of Manhattan, provide depth and glamour to his selection of  timeless frame shapes. The colours Empire Blue, Broadway Red, Lexington Green, NYC Black, Chelsea Tortoise and Brownstone all evoke the Big Apple.

Brownstone

This collection also includes the first woman’s ophthalmic frame Robert has produced in black and a round sunglass featuring a  unique titanium temple produced in Japan. We further anticipate the arrival of the artisanal custom acetate collection for men.

Please celebrate with us Robert Marc’s New York heritage, reinterpreted and modernized, at all of our Josephson Opticians locations throughout Toronto.

Refinement of Form

22 Aug
2016

Contemporary eyewear designs are tending  to  incorporate multiple materials into the construction of a single frame.  Industry leaders in innovation, including MYKITA and Robert Marc , are offering us a glimpse of  how a more refined  interpretation of this trend will soon prevail. This shift in styling is  exemplified by a selection of new releases currently in stock at Josephson Opticians.

A new release from MYKITA’s LITE collection

Hand assembled in Berlin, MYKITA’s LITE collection is notable for offering  slender silhouettes and simple constructions. This collection represents the lightest glasses crafted by MYKITA. Whether made entirely in slender stainless steel or in a material mix where the warmth of cellulose acetate meets the sleekness of steel in an elegant connection, the reduced LITE design concept offers supreme comfort in a refined aesthetic.

A sample from Robert Marc’s Second Nature collection

Robert Marc‘s latest designs contain many examples of a refinement of form and a  reduction in  thickness of frame components.  The timeless, masculine styles  from his Second Nature collection combine acetate fronts with slender titanium temples. All are hand crafted in Japan and their subtleties are  enhanced by matted finishes of naturalistic  colours such as ceder, slate and driftwood.

We encourage you to view what’s new when it’s new, at Josephson Opticians locations throughout Toronto.

Escapism

10 Mar
2015

I struggle in the thickets, stumble over fallen trees, step on the tail of my bear-skin, pitch face first into drifts till all I want is to rest, possibly take a little nap. I suspect parts of me will not survive. Once I was beautiful, but I shall bury fingers, toes, earlobes and possibly a nose in Canada.

-Douglas Glover

Perhaps we don’t  fare as poorly as the protagonist from Douglas Glover’s Governor General’s award winning novel entitled Elle, but this winter seems to be  taken its tole on all of us.

The benefit of observing Daylight Saving Time each March is the gift of an hour’s worth of   additional daylight. To protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays, and to lift your spirits until the temperature  rises, you’d be wise to consider the latest releases from Robert Marc.

Robert’s seasonal collections are themed, reflecting his artistic consciousness and  imagination. The styling and mystique of such South Beach landmarks as the Lido and Setai Hotels have been his latest inspiration.

The Raleigh South Beach

The Miami Beach Resort Collection  consists of  models incorporating Art Deco inspired tones with varied tortoise fronts. Each frame is hand-crafted in France and features Robert Marc’s signature hinge motif. Limited edition sets of models in both the  Royal Palm and Fontainebleau colour combinations are available at our Flagship location while quantities last.

Until the cold subsides and the snow drifts diminish, allow Robert’s collection to evoke the sensations of warmth and relaxation.
